New Opportunities and Needs in Pharmacy – Pharmacy Times

By | September 1, 2019

David Pope, PharmD, CDE, and John King, CEO of OmniSYS, discuss how new opportunities for pharmacies are also creating new questions and needs. This video was filmed at the 2019 NACDS Total Store Expo in Boston.

David Pope, PharmD, CDE: As we experience a downward pressure in terms of the marketplace for the prescription side, certainly that reveals new opportunities for pharmacists to be able to engage in new clinical services and other services in general. I think about the movement that we’re seeing across the country in California and in Texas and Tennessee, in Ohio and so many other locations out there. Payers are now recognizing pharmacists as a viable part of the health care team for clinical services, and so they’re now leveraging the pharmacist who is living in the small communities of America. There may not even be a red light in that town, but yet there’s a pharmacist there who can engage with them, and there’s power in that.

So, we’re seeing pharmacists get into medical contracts for those clinical services. Now at the same time, as they’re revealing new opportunities in being able to engage in clinical services, it also reveals a need for us to be able to streamline our resources and to maximize our technologies to be able to give them that time and that freedom to be able to engage with their patients.
