WALKING, MEDITATING, PRAYING AND LISTENING TO MUSIC ARE WAYS TO DE-STRESS DURING ISOLATION QUARANTINE
COVID-19 has been stressful and trying times for all of us, especially patients and healthcare workers on the front lines. Sometimes a little spiritual healing is the medicine we need.
“As a chaplain and as a pastor I’ve been very busy and in much demand because people are searching for meaning, they’re searching for faith,” said Piedmont Columbus Regional’s Dr. Marlon Scott. “They know now that their faith is going to get them through this.”
Rev. Scott is the founding pastor or Emmanuel Christian community Church (E.C.C.C.) in Columbus, Georgia. E.C.C.C. was founded in December of 2003 with only four members: Rev. Scott, his wife, and their 2 children. Since that time over 400 souls have united with Emmanuel.
Social distancing has played a factor for church and spiritual care services, but technology has made these interactions possible.
“I just did some marital counseling for a family that’s in the hospital through FaceTime and Skype,” said Dr. Scott. “It’s just been remarkable how effective technology is at this time.”
Everyone does not have easy access to these spiritual services, but there are ways to receive help and rebuild faith.
“During this time, what I recommend for people to do with stress is to pray,” said Dr. Scott. “Is to go for a walk. Maybe listen to their favorite meditative music.”
