Cutlery is one of those kitchen utensils we often take for granted; perhaps you were gifted a set as an engagement or wedding present, but now you give them little thought as you rotate them from the kitchen drawer, to the table, to the dishwasher and back again.
Maybe you’ve lost a few over the years, only to be found under a teenager’s bed or (gasp!) accidentally mangled among the clippings after mowing the lawn.
KROF owner Kristian Klein knows a thing or two about quality cutlery. Designed in Australia, KROF cutlery comes in a range of finishes that are perfect for every table and occasion – from brushed silver or gold, to traditional polished silver and ultra modern matte black. We asked Kristian his thoughts on caring for cutlery, what’s trending, and style tips to try at home.
Why should you use your ‘good cutlery’ every day?
We have fallen into this horrible habit of caring about everything on our table except our cutlery. We spend all this time making our beautiful food and then eat it with mismatched, dinged up cutlery picked up over the years.
Our food deserves better, and we deserve better and we know everything tastes better with good cutlery.
How should you care for cutlery?
Our cutlery is best cleaned in the dishwasher and then any excess water marks should be dried with a soft, lint free cloth before putting them away as detergent and water can leave marks if left to air dry.
Hot water and vinegar is best to clean your pieces if marks occur. Also worth noting is that acidity and salt in food can cause damage to stainless steel if left unwashed for too long. Make sure you clean your pieces after every use to keep them in top condition.
What are some of the hottest trends in cutlery?
Cutlery is heading in a slender and classy direction, design is being challenged from the traditional stuff we have seen over the past 50 years.
If you wanted to invest in just one set, what should you opt for?
You want a set with high quality stainless steel and a design you will enjoy using every day. Look for dishwasher safe and some weight and thickness to your items. There are many cheap products out there that bend and flex – stay away from those ones.
What cutlery suits a classic white dinner set?
Brushed gold looks fantastic on white. It really makes the beautiful instruments stand out.
Can you share some styling ideas for the table?
Never be afraid to over-style. The sleek and contemporary design of the flatware cutlery is bound to complement the craziest of tables – it’s always a good idea to give your guests a table to remember.
